A private session is the deep work. I take your full history, read your pulse and your tongue, and build a treatment around what your body is doing that day. Cycles, perimenopause, sleep, digestion, pain, and the things that are harder to name.
Book a session
You do not have to know what is wrong to come in. You do not have to arrive with the right vocabulary, and you do not have to already believe in this. You have to be honest about what you are feeling. I will handle the translation.
A private session is acupuncture and Chinese medicine built for you alone. Where community acupuncture uses the same five ear points on everyone in the room, a private visit starts with a long conversation and ends with needles placed for your pattern, and only yours.
I combine two ways of working. The Balance Method gives fast relief, often before you are off the table, and it is especially good with pain. Five Element medicine works at the constitutional level, on the root underneath the symptom, the one driving the fatigue or the cycle or the sleep. That one is slower, and it is the work that changes what your body does when I am not in the room.
Relief now, change over time. That is the whole model.

“The experience was 10/10 from start to finish. She was extremely helpful and shared a lot of knowledge. I will be booking weekly!”

“I am on my fourth session and felt the difference after day one.”
Mérida patient
“If you are in perimenopause and on the fence about solutions versus HRT, or dealing with any womb needs, fibroids included, her services stretch that far. Post acupuncture I feel amazing.”
Kay · MéridaMost acupuncturists specialize in one or the other. I trained in both, and I use them together in the same session.
A modern system developed by Dr. Richard Tan that treats distant points on linked channels instead of needling where it hurts. Shoulder pain gets needles on the opposite leg. Knee pain, the opposite arm. Headaches, the feet. Digestion, the hands.
An ancient constitutional framework. Everything in nature, your body included, is organized through Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. I read your dominant element through your tongue, your pulse, your symptoms, how you handle stress, and how you move through the seasons.
Session one: Balance Method for your chief complaint, Five Element diagnosis to understand your constitution. Every session after: both. You feel better quickly and you stay better.
This is not a quick in and out. Plan on 60 to 75 minutes the first time. About half of it is talking and looking, and the other half is needles.
What brought you in, your history, what you have already tried, medications and surgeries, and how you actually live: sleep, stress, food, digestion, your cycle if you have one, and what makes things better or worse. I want to know what is happening in your life, not just your labs. Overwhelm from caretaking, fear about a scheduled surgery, a job that is eating you. These matter. They land in the body.
The shape, the color, the coating, and the markings tell me what is happening with your internal organs and where the imbalance sits. I take a quick look and a photo so we can compare it over time. No, it is not weird. It is brilliant.
Both wrists, nine positions. The quality, depth, and rhythm tell me the strength of each organ system and where energy is blocked or running low. Together with the tongue, this is the diagnostic half of Chinese medicine, the way bloodwork is the diagnostic half of Western medicine.
Something like Liver Qi Stagnation with Blood Deficiency, or Spleen Qi Deficiency with Dampness. It sounds like another language because it is one, and it is the roadmap for everything that follows. I will explain what is out of balance, how acupuncture, food, herbs, and small lifestyle shifts will address the root, how often I want to see you, and what you can do between visits.
You lie on the table and I place fine, sterile, single use needles, closer to the width of a hair than to anything at a blood draw. You feel a small sensation going in, then a dull heaviness or warmth around the point, and that is the treatment working. About 35 minutes with the needles in. Most people are asleep before I leave the room.
Typically weekly or every two weeks for the first four to six weeks, to build momentum. Once things stabilize we space out to monthly. Chronic patterns take longer than acute ones, and I will tell you honestly which yours is.
Chinese medicine reads the body through five systems, and every symptom you bring me belongs to one of them. This is how I think when you are on the table.
Painful periods, heavy bleeding, irregular cycles, fibroids, PMS that runs the week before. Fertility support, before and during trying. The Liver governs the smooth flow of blood, and when it is stuck, your cycle is the first place it shows.
Hot flashes, night sweats, the fatigue that a full night does not touch, the deep dread with no name. The years when your labs may be fine and your body is not. Weighing hormone therapy, or on it and wanting something alongside it.
Waking at 2 or 3 and lying there. A mind that will not stop. Anxiety that flares without warning, a heart that races at rest. The Heart houses the spirit in this medicine, and when it is unsettled, nothing else rests either.
Bloating you have normalized, reflux, constipation, the gut that reacts to everything. The heaviness after eating and the fog after that. Earth is how the body turns food into energy, and when it is weak, you feel it everywhere.
Every session starts with acupuncture. What I add depends on what your body is presenting that day, not on a menu.
Fine needles placed along the body's meridians to regulate qi, calm the nervous system, and address the root of what is happening, not just the symptom in front of us.
Dried mugwort burned near a point to warm the body and move qi. For cold hands and feet, chronic fatigue, weak digestion, cramps, and joint pain. It even turns breech babies, and there is research on that. Gentle, penetrating warmth, and an earthy smell some people love.
Cups on the skin create suction that pulls stagnation to the surface. For tight shoulders and back, chronic cough, and deep release. A strong pulling that feels tight, then relieving. The round marks are not bruises and fade in 3 to 7 days.
A smooth edged tool worked along the skin and fascia. For neck, shoulder, and back tension, and the first day of a cold. Firm pressure, therapeutic not painful. The redness that comes up is stagnant blood clearing, and it fades in 2 to 5 days. Also the basis of the cosmetic work, on the face.
Which ones you get depends on your body that day, and I always explain what I am doing and why. The goal is the same every time. Move what is stuck. Warm what is cold. Nourish what is deficient. Calm what is excess.
Formulas suited to your constitution, added when your pattern calls for support you can take home. Professional grade, third party tested, shipped to your door with my pricing applied. The dispensary is here.

Acupuncture regulates the hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis, the communication line between your brain and your reproductive system. That is the line hormone therapy is trying to override from the outside. Acupuncture works on it from the inside.
It calms a nervous system stuck in fight or flight, which matters because a body in that state cannot regulate hormones well no matter what supplement you add to it. It moves blood and reduces inflammation, which is what is happening under a cramp, a hot flash, or a headache that shows up every cycle like clockwork.
Your body is not malfunctioning. It is communicating, and most of what it has been trying to say has never been translated for you. That is the work I do in this room.
I was a cancer researcher with a body that would not cooperate with anything I had been trained to believe about health.
I managed physiology labs and published in oncology and cell physiology. I also had migraines, digestive problems no elimination diet fixed, and eczema that flared no matter what I put on it or took out of my diet. I had every explanation Western science could give me and I was still miserable.
I walked into an acupuncture clinic out of desperation. What happened to my body over the following months changed what I understood healing to be. My body did not need a perfect environment. It needed stability, and the ability to meet stress without falling apart every time. A body that can only function under perfect conditions is not a healed body. It is a fragile one.
I left the lab, became a Doctor of Acupuncture, built my own clinic in Maryland, and in 2026 moved my family to Mérida. Seven years in practice and nineteen years teaching anatomy and physiology mean that when I tell you what is happening in your body, I am not guessing. I am naming it. Then I am treating it.
Eat something light a couple of hours before. Not starving, not stuffed. Skip alcohol that day and go easy on hard exercise. Wear loose, comfortable clothes that let me reach your forearms and lower legs. Bring your questions. Tell me ahead of time if you are pregnant, on blood thinners, or managing a condition.
Drink water. Rest if you can, even 15 minutes of stillness helps the work settle. No alcohol for 24 hours, it undoes the treatment. No intense exercise, sauna, or hot bath for 24 hours. Your body is doing something underneath, and it needs the quiet.
Pay attention. Energy shifts, symptom changes, emotional releases, how you sleep. You might feel deeply relaxed, or energized, or weepy, or an old symptom might surface briefly as things move. All of that is normal and it passes. Message me if anything worries you.
I will give you recommendations for your constitution at your appointment. Until then, the basics. Warm, cooked food, especially if you are tired, cold, or bloated. Nothing cold or raw first thing in the morning. Eat regularly. Go easy on iced drinks. If you are damp, bloated, foggy, a thick coat on the tongue, pull back on dairy, sugar, and refined carbs. Broth, cooked vegetables, warm grains, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and good protein if you tolerate it.
In bed by 10:30 when you can. The Liver does its deepest work between 11 and 3, and it cannot if you are awake. Screens off an hour before. Move gently, walking, qigong, stretching, and skip the punishing workouts while you are depleted or your cycle is off. Breathe on purpose once a day. Set the boundary. Your health depends on it, and if you are an Earth constitution, it depends on it more than most.
And knows it is not. These are the women who book a private session.
Heavy, painful, unpredictable, or all three. Fibroids someone told you to watch. A body that has been on birth control so long you are not sure what it does on its own.
Book a sessionHot flashes, sleep that stops holding, moods that turn on you, and a doctor who offered hormones or nothing. Chinese medicine is not against hormone therapy. It is another tool, and for some women it is the one that finally moves something.
Book a sessionTwo or three in the morning, heart going, mind already at work. You have tried the sleep hygiene list. This is usually not a sleep problem. It is a nervous system problem, and a Liver or Heart pattern underneath it.
Book a sessionBloating you have normalized, reflux, constipation, the fog after eating. You have cut out dairy, then gluten, then the thing you cannot pronounce, and the reaction still finds you.
Book a sessionNeck, back, jaw, knees, the headache that arrives on schedule. Pain that has settled in and started to feel like part of you. It is not. It is the most treatable thing on this list.
Book a sessionAllergies, skin, tingling hands, ringing ears, the thing you stopped mentioning to doctors because nobody had anything for it. Ask me. Chances are it does.
Book a free consultFull intake, pulse and tongue, and a treatment built around what your body is doing that day.
Group setting. Five ear points. Thirty minutes. Then tea. No intake.
The needles are hair thin, far finer than anything used for a blood draw or an injection. Most people feel a small sensation going in, then a dull heaviness or warmth, then deep relaxation. Many fall asleep on the table.
Weekly or every two weeks for the first four to six weeks, to build momentum. Once you stabilize we space out to monthly. Chronic conditions take longer than acute ones.
Many people feel shifts within two or three treatments: better sleep, more energy, less pain. Deep change in a chronic pattern usually takes three to six months of consistent treatment.
Walking and gentle stretching, yes. Intense workouts, sauna, and hot baths, wait 24 hours. Your body is doing deep work internally.
Acupuncture works alongside Western medication. I will never tell you to stop something a doctor prescribed. Always talk to your prescribing doctor before making any change.
HSA and FSA cards are accepted for private treatments. I do not bill insurance directly.
Your questions, and loose comfortable clothing. Shorts or a tank top under your clothes help if what we are treating is on the legs or back.
No. Community acupuncture is a set five point ear protocol in a group, with no intake. It settles the nervous system and it is a good way in. A private session treats your specific pattern. Most women end up wanting both. Read about community acupuncture here.
Cancel or reschedule with less than 48 hours notice and there is a $25 fee. Same day cancellations are charged the full visit. If it is an emergency, tell me. I am a person.
